Opening of new washroom facilities at The Bridge Mill

On Wednesday 23rd September, the new reception class of Stratton Primary School made their first outing to The Bridge Mill at Bridgerule, to follow the story of the Little Red Hen who takes her grains of wheat to be ground into flour. But first the children took part in the official opening of new hand-washing and toilet facilities for visiting groups. Deputy head Mrs Penny Simpson helped the children to cut the ribbon and declare the building open. Refreshments were served that included hen-shaped biscuits specially baked for the occasion.

The owners, Alan & Rosie Beat, open their smallholding and water mill to visiting school and adult groups under the Countryside Stewardship Educational Access scheme. Natural England has funded the new building and provides ongoing support so that visits remain free of charge.

Rosie Beat said “We are delighted that we can now offer visitors the use of this spacious and modern washroom. Today’s outing marks our 50th visit so far this year, so it’s very appropriate for Mrs Simpson and her reception class to formally declare the new building open.”
